The Artist
Richard Romero was born in Peru and currently lives in New Jersey where he has lived since 1999. Mr. Romero started painting seriously at the age of 17. He taught himself to draw and paint in oil by studying and copying works by John Singer Sargent, Rembrandt, David, Michael Angelo and Raphael. A believer in the strength and permanence of classic design, He draws inspiration from the Old Masters. Each of his portraits is created as a classic piece of art that represents the integrity and the charm of each subject. He considers Rembrandt and Velazquez to be his greatest influences. His portraits are most often compared to those of John Singer Sargent.
From the beginning of his professional career, Richard Romero's work has been in high demand, including commissions from Europe, Australia, Mexico, England, Canada, and throughout the United States. He has created portraits of different kinds of people and a wide array of pets and horses for many , but there is one thing that all the drawings have in common, they all become part of the family.
For most of the year, Mr. Romero works in his Paterson studio. He spends a considerable amount of time with clients in the New York area.
